The following is a statement from Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball concerning the Beshear Administration and the Kentucky Democratic Party's attempt to intimidate her office's investigations.
“On April 17, 2025, my office announced an investigation into the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis, following widespread concerns about how business licenses were reviewed and awarded.
The day after we announced, on Good Friday, the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) sent five Open Records Act requests to my office in what can only be described as an attempt to intimidate me from continuing the investigation.
This marks the second time in recent months that someone has tried to intimidate me from conducting investigations. The first attempt was made by Governor Beshear's Finance and Administration Cabinet just days after we announced two investigations into the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
It is a shame that parties would seek to weaponize the Open Records Act, an important transparency tool, as a political weapon. Because I believe in the importance of transparency, I have responded to the KDP's requests in full, just as I did to the Finance Cabinet requests.
Kentucky should rest assured that these intimidation tactics will not work. I will continue to carry out the job that Kentuckians elected me to do."
