Auditor Ball Continues Fight to Protect Fair Representation on the Executive Branch Ethics Commission

6/13/2025

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 13, 2025) – Today, Auditor Allison Ball, along with Kentucky's other Constitutional Officers, jointly filed a brief in the Kentucky Supreme Court case, Beshear v. Coleman, continuing their effort to defend the General Assembly's authority and uphold legislation strengthening the Executive Branch Ethics Commission (EBEC).

The General Assembly passed House Bill 334 in 2022, which expanded the Constitutional Officers' role in appointing EBEC members, enhancing the commission's independence and reinforcing ethical oversight within the Executive Branch. Despite the law's clear mandate, Governor Beshear has continued to defy the law, appealing the decision in an effort to retain unilateral control over the commission.

“The Governor continues to place politics above fairness," Auditor Ball stated. “Kentuckians deserve an Executive Branch Ethics Commission that upholds good governance and serves the public interest, not one beholden to partisan control. I remain committed to standing up for the rule of law and serving the people of the Commonwealth."
