Office of Auditor of Public Accounts Announces Special Examination of Kentucky Community and
Technical College System

5/15/2023

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 15, 2023) Today, the Office of the Auditor of Public Accounts (APA) announced they will conduct a special examination of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). KCTCS was notified in a letter sent to Dr. Larry Ferguson, Acting President of KCTCS by Farrah Petter, Assistant State Auditor, after KCTCS' Board of Regents voted in March to request APA conduct a special examination of the system.

In the letter sent on May 15, Assistant State Auditor Petter stated the APA “…will open an engagement to conduct a special examination to review certain financial activity, policies, and procedures of the KCTCS' System Office.  The special examination will primarily focus on the time period of July 1, 2020 through April 30, 2023 but may vary depending upon documentation and data available to review the concern.  Additionally, at its discretion, the APA may expand the subject areas or duration of this examination to address high risk areas identified during our work."  The letter goes on to state that APA will issue a report upon completion of the office's work, describing any weaknesses or deficiencies identified, and will offer recommendations to KCTCS to strengthen their financial controls.

There is no set date on when APA's work will be completed. You can read the full letter here.
