(Frankfort - December 14, 2005)State Auditor Crit Luallen appointed David Martin of Huntsville to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. Mr. Martin served four terms as Butler County Judge / Executive, retiring in 1999 when he became the executive director of the Kentucky County Judge / Executives Association.

“I am pleased to appoint Judge David Martin to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. Such an important position must be filled with someone with experience who has an exemplary work ethic. Elections are the cornerstone of our democracy and Kentucky’s election finance laws are critical to ensuring that a process too often fraught with questions is conducted out in the open for all to see.” State Auditor Crit Luallen said.

“My goal, using my experience as a candidate, elected official, and a representative of all County Judge / Executives in Frankfort, is to see that the finance laws of Kentucky are adhered to.” David Marin said. “Most importantly, however, Kentuckians need to have access to as much information as possible to help them make informed choices.”

Judge Martin is currently a member of the Barren River Area Development District Board of Directors and Butler County Water System Board. He is employed as a community relations specialist for LKLP, the Leslie, Knott, Letcher, Perry County Community Action Council. His wife, Javene, and he have two children and two grandchildren.

The Kentucky Registry of Election Finance is an independent seven-member board appointed to serve as the regulatory body for the administration, regulation, and enforcement of Kentucky’s campaign finance laws. The agency receives, compiles, and maintains Financial Disclosure Reports of elected officials and candidates for specified offices. The agency hears complaints and issues rulings regarding the finance laws enacted by the General Assembly.

The seven members are appointed by the Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Auditor of Public Accounts. The board members serve four-year terms. Martin’s term expires on August 15, 2009.
