(Frankfort - March 3, 2004)
Auditor of Public Accounts Crit Luallen's office will immediately begin the process of auditing the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority. Governor Ernie Fletcher, in a formal request, asked Ms. Luallen's office to conduct an "examination of the Commission's activities." Ms. Luallen has already put in a call to Environmental and Public Protection Secretary LaJuana Wilcher in order to begin the auditing process.
"The Office of the Auditor of Public Accounts stands ready and able to conduct a full financial audit of the racing commission," Ms. Luallen said. "We look forward to, not only reviewing past practices, but, at the Governor's request, giving our advice on future controls and procedures that will help protect and promote one of Kentucky's signature industries. We are happy to work with the new administration to fulfill our duty in protecting taxpayer dollars." |
