Auditor of Public Accounts Crit Luallen today released the annual audit of the Commonwealth for Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2003. Known as SSWAK, the Statewide Single Audit of the Commonwealth of Kentucky includes tests of state and federal compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grants. In addition to compliance testing, the Commonwealth's internal control over financial reporting and compliance is considered and tested. This audit was authorized by Congress in The Single Audit Act of 1984. The act requires that states audit financial statements, and their compliance with internal controls, regarding federal moneys received by the Commonwealth.
The audit contained 41 reportable findings, none of which were material to the Commonwealth's financial statement. "These findings show marked improvement from Fiscal Year 02 in which there were 53 reportable findings, 7 of which were material," said State Auditor Crit Luallen. "We are pleased to see improvement in the way the Commonwealth handled its financial management in fiscal year 2003." Fiscal Year 2003 encompassed July 1, 2002 to June 30, 2003. The Statewide Single Audit of Kentucky is one of the Office of Auditor of Public Accounts' statutory mandates. This report is the product of 38 auditors and over 38,000 hours of work. Work began on SSWAK in April of 2003. The following auditors were involved in the Statewide Single Audit of Kentucky.
