The Examination Branch of the Auditor of Public Accounts investigates citizen complaints regarding the waste, misuse and abuse of taxpayer funds. This branch has identified misappropriations, questionable expenditures, or lax business practices through examinations and investigations of state agencies, city and county governments, local school districts and other special districts. To date, the Examination Branch has addressed over 1,000 complaints, identifying over $19 million dollars in fraud or questionable expenditures and practices. | |

Information Technology, Security Consultation and Training Branch |

The Information Technology, Security Consultation and Training Branch supplies the technical skills and expertise to audit computer system controls significant to financial statements. The Information Technology, Security Consultation and Training Branch audits government computer systems and the data they generate. The branch also produces auditable information for financial and performance auditors by extracting, analyzing and reporting data derived from agency computer systems. | |
Division Director: Brian Lykins |

Brian Lykins is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. While at the APA, he has been a financial auditor, as well as an IT audit supervisor. Lykins was appointed Division Director in 1996. Agency reorganization brought both the information technology and special investigation units together. Lykins has been extremely successful in merging these two units into one division and under him the division has become one of the best in the nation. |
